What is steviol glycoside extract?

Stevia is a plant native to South America which has been used as a sweetener for several centuries; from this plant (stevia) are extracted “steviol glycosides” which are responsible for giving the sweetness. Being an extract, they are considered high intensity because they sweeten 200 to 300 times more than cane sugar and do not provide calories.

The use of steviol glycosides has been approved by the main sanitary organisms in Mexico and in the world (COFEPRIS, FDA, CODEX Alimentarius).
